This
site is specifically
built to assess
how many consumers
are interested
in Fiber-to-the-Home.
Connecting
a single home
to a fiber-optics
network easily
costs many hundreds
to even thousands
of euros. Companies
that install
such networks
are therefore
looking at a
multi-million
euro investment
if they want
to realize fiber-to-the-home
(FttH) in an
entire neighborhood
or a district.
Since those
companies are
currently going
through rough
times as well,
they cannot
easily afford
such investments.
The more people
in a certain
area show interest
in fiber-to-the-home,
however, the
lesser the financial
risk and the
more interesting
it is for them
to decide to
go ahead with
the installation
after all.
This
web site is
THE place to
be for everyone
that is interested
in fiber-to-the-home,
not
just for Kenniswijk
inhabitants
but for everyone
in the Netherlands.
By registering
yourself through
the form below,
you make a clear
statement towards
the fiber-optics
companies: as
far as you are
concerned, they
can start installing
tomorrow! The
more people
in your neighborhood
actually register
themselves,
the greater
the impact.
It commits you
to nothing,
but of course
it also gives
no guarantees

- After
sending in
the form,
you will automatically
receive an
e-mail which
contains a
confirmation
link. Your
registration
will not be
valid until
you have clicked
on that link
to confirm.
This extra
step is necessary
to prevent
people to
register more
than once
or to prevent
other people
from registering
in your name.
- Your
personal data
will be treated
with utmost
care and confidentiality.
- Interested
fiber-optics
companies
can get numerical
overviews
of registrations
in a certain
area, so your
individual
postal code
will not
be released.
- Your
e-mailadres
will only
be used for
validation
purposes (as
described
above) unless
you have indicated
that you would
like to be
kept up-to-date.
In the latter
case we will
send you news
via e-mail,
not more than
a few times
a year. Your
e-mail address
will be stored
in a secure
database at
Kenniswijk
BV and will
under no circumstances
be at the
disposal of
other parties.

Is this
initiative limited
to Kenniswijk?
Definitely not!
Even though
Kenniswijk BV
is the initiator
of this web
site, every
Dutch resident
is more than
welcome to register!
When can
I expect FttH
in my home?
Next to the
1200 homes in
Kenniswijk that
are already
connected to
FttH, projects
have started
all over the
Netherlands
to promote actual
FttH installation.
Because digging
open the streets
is necessary
for this installation,
connecting single/individual
homes is impossible.
Projects are
therefore realized
in an entire
neighborhood,
or street. The
survey on this
site means to
identify favorable
locations based
on which FttH
companies can
decide where
to start installing
first.
What exactly
is 'broadband'?
The definition
of boradband
is changing
rapidly. When
cable and (A)DSL
where still
relatively new,
they were considered
to be 'broadband'.
Compared to
phone modems
and ISDN, and
with the lack
of even faster
connections,
that was a feasible
conclusion.
With fiber-optics,
however, a much
faster connection
is available
which reduces
the respective
speed of the
average cable/(A)DSL
to 'midband'
at best. That
is why the Kenniswijk
broadband subsidy
regulation uses
the following
broadband
definition:
"all connections
that have a
symmetrical
bandwidth of
at least 10
megabits per
second"
(so both upstream
as well as downstream).
Why FttH,
when (A)DSL and
cable offer increasing
speed as well?
The bandwidth
(=amount of
information
that can be
transported)
of a copper
cable (e.g.
phone line of
coax cable)
has been increased
over the years.
It is now possible
to also reach
download
speeds of up
to 10 Mbps but...
this is about
the highest
achievable bandwidth
from a technical
and economical
perspective.
Fiber-optics
is now available
as of 10 Mbps
download AND
10
Mbps
upload speed
- and that is
just the beginning.
We already have
FttH networks
in the Netherlands
that offer 100
Mbps and the
developments
have only just
started. This
super-bandwidth
will be necessary
in the near
future because
more and more
services will
be offered electronically.
Right now, there
is no abundance
of broadband
services yet,
but installing
FttH on a large
scale will take
many more years
so it is vital
that a start
will be made
today.
